My name is Phil, and I believe that theater and live performance are integral to the human experience, and that they tap into what it means to be a member of the global community. With that as a starting point, my interests diversify quickly.
I am the Executive Director of Leavenworth Summer Theater, a thriving outdoor musical production company two hours outside of Seattle, nestled in the Cascade Mountains. The organization has just celebrated it's 25th anniversary, and I am excited to build on the fantastic artistic foundation and community that exist in Leavenworth. www.leavenworthsummertheater.org
I am also the Artistic Director of The Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Starting in 2017, the Board of Directors and I are working to bring the venerable organization into the 21st century - updating production value and aesthetic, expanding our audience, developing a myriad of community partnerships, and working to be a respectful and inclusive organization for all genders and ethnicities. We are celebrating our 65th season in 2019, and many exciting things are in development. www.seattlegilbertandsullivan.com
And last but not least, I am a freelance director and choreographer. I am delighted to work in any genre, but the stories that interest me the most involve emotional authenticity, diverse representation and points of view, and multi-textual aesthetic force. Before I was introduced to theater and dance in college I was pursuing piano performance, and that sense of lyricism and emotional power still pervades every aspect of my work.
